Filipp Filippovich accepts patients at home on Prechistenka. Schwonder, the chairman of the house committee, comes to the professor and asks for two rooms for tenants. Thanks to his connections, the professor asserts his rights, and the guest is forced to leave without a positive result.
A week later, the Ball was transformed into a good and beautiful dog. The doctor and his pupil Bormental decide to conduct an experimental operation: transplant the dog pituitary gland of a person Klim Chugunkin, who was graying three times for a robbery. Dr. Preobrazhensky found a method of rejuvenating the body and wanted to test it.
The experiment showed positive results. The ball progressively turns into a person, increases in size, speech activity is manifested. After three weeks at the site of the dog was a low human individual with internal negative qualities. Later, he insists that the professor prescribe it, and for this he needs an identification document. He decided to invent a name and surname himself: Polygraph Poligrafovich Sharikov. From dog life, he only survived hostility to cats. Bormental is trying to teach Sharikov the right manners at dinner, but all his attempts are unsuccessful.
One week goes by. Sharikov tells the doctor that a separate room should be allocated to him. Now he is entering the housing estate. On the same evening, Sharikov leaves the house with money and comes at night drunk, accompanied by two strangers. They managed to escort only thanks to the police.
That night, Preobrazhensky and Bormental are discussing the situation. They are upset that an immoral person has turned out of a good dog. The scientist is convinced that in front of them is Klim Chugunkin, a former felon.
After some time, Sharikov presents to Preobrazhensky a certificate stating that Polygraph Poligrafovich now serves as the head of the department for cleaning stray animals from the city of Moscow. The next day, Sharikov’s denunciation of his creator comes to the high-ranking patient of the doctor. Also, a man manages to bring his girlfriend and molest all the women in the house. After all this, Filipp Filippovich recommends that the hero immediately get out of the apartment. However, he retrieves a revolver. Bromental immediately acts: cuts the bell wire, locks all the doors. The opposite experiment takes place: Sharikov returns to his natural form.
After 10 days, the professors were charged with the murder of Sharikov. The scientist was surprised at this statement because he did not see any Polygraph and does not know. A strange dog was shown to the witness: in appearance, he was bald in places, wool was growing somewhere. After two months of rehabilitation, a dog lives quietly in Preobrazhensky’s apartment, who in the evenings is sleeping peacefully on the carpet in his office.
