I believe that an outstanding personality can change society, since it is the leaders who manage it and streamline its development. One person is more organized than the crowd, he can plan and act according to the plan, but the association of people, as a rule, breaks up into separate parts and is torn from doubt, contradiction and hesitation. My idea is confirmed by many examples from the literature.
In Gorky's story “The Old Woman Izergil”, the hero led the people along, rescuing him from the destructive forest thickets and swamps. These people were evicted from their lands by cruel enemies, and now they have vegetated in the lands where they could not exist normally. They were tired and already disappointed in everything, but then Danko intervened and instilled hope in them. The tribe began to wander in the woods, but in the end it lost faith in the leader. However, despite the reproaches and murmurs of the crowd, the leader was able to take her out into the open, to the light, sacrificing his life. He symbolically takes a burning heart out of his chest and illuminates his path to freedom. He changed the fate of his community, his name immortalized in legend.
In Gorky’s play “At the Bottom”, the dwellers of the shelters completely lost faith in themselves. They fell both physically and mentally. They do not have the strength to go further and somehow change their lives. That was before Luke arrived. The preacher came to the basement in Kitai Gorod and began to console the prisoners of poverty and vice. He sympathizes with the terminally ill Anna, inspires hope for the desperate Actor, predicts a bright future for Vaska Pepl and his chosen one. People are changing for the better before our eyes, because they, the outcast, lacked only the support and attention of society, responding to their calls with indifference. Luke gave them this support, and they began to think about how to improve their life. So, one person was able to at least briefly change the marginal society of the shelter.
Thus, the strong will of one person is enough to change society, to make it better and kinder. A leader can lead people along and ask them the right moral guidelines that will help them find their way to a brighter future.
