We tried to console him, but still it was obvious that such an act of friends upset him. Alas, it is unclear to many people what devotion is, they do not value friendship and scatter it, risking being alone.
Media example: In one of the news portals, I read a story about how a teacher ran to save students from a fire and died, suffocating with carbon monoxide. She could have survived, but a sense of duty and loyalty to her ideals sent her to the burning building. This heroic act is the highest manifestation of devotion.
