(287 words) The main idea of Lermontov’s “Hero of our time” is to convey to the readers the psychological characteristics of the young man of that time and to characterize a whole era through his image. The sharp change in ideals that followed the uprising of the Decembrists was reflected in Pechorin, who did not believe in anything and did not strive for anything, wasting his strength. The prologue openly demonstrates the author’s goal: “The hero of our time is a portrait made up of the vices of our entire generation.”
I liked this book. It is easy to read and enjoyable, because the work has dynamics that do not allow the public to get bored. In five small chapters, you can understand what the youth of that time did, why she was so ineptly and idly wasting life on trifles. The answer must be sought in the originality of the era of Nicholas I. The nobles, having suffered a crushing defeat during the uprising, ceased to believe that they play an important role in the country. Their functions were reduced to participation in the masquerade of high life, and active people wanted more. They saw that Russia needed changes, and wanted to participate in its transformation, to help the authorities. But their initiative was rejected and punished, so the young Pechorin only remains to get involved in dubious adventures. My impression of the novel is positive, but still there is a bitter aftertaste, because we can notice the problems of the past in the present.
The book teaches us determination. The author wants us to achieve our desires, live for something, and not just exist. Gregory does not use his abilities, does not try to take efforts to achieve something. Dissatisfaction and lack of purpose will not change the course of life, will not provide opportunities. In addition, you must respect the people around you. Pechorin manipulated them and paid cruelly when his beloved woman left him forever.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand themselves and overcome the internal crisis. Seeing your suffering from the outside, you can learn to overcome it.
